  • En påminnelse till 505-seglare / A reminder to 505 sailors:

Rule B 6.2 - Centreboard and Centreboard Case

With high aspect ratio centreboards, where the pivot point is through a cantilever or 'beak' at the front of the board, and with vertically adjustable pivot bolts, there is a danger of infringing rule B 6.2, especially the last part.

Rule B 6.2 reads:
6.2 The centreboard shall fit within the centreboard case not extending below the bottom of the hull when fully raised. The trailing edge may project above the centreboard case top when in the raised or partly raised position. No part of the leading edge which is more than 300mm from the tip and is capable of protruding below the hull shall be capable of being raised more than 200mm above the bottom of the hull.
Further, the IRC has given the following official interpretation (March 2004):
Rule 6.2 is to be applied with all equipment, including spars, in its normal sailing position. The centreboard must be capable of being fully retracted into the centreboard case at all times whilst sailing.

All 505 owners and sailors are recommended to check that when the board is fully raised, and with any lifting pin also raised to the maximum limit to which it can be moved while sailing, that no part of the leading edge that is more than 300mm from the tip is more than 200mm above the bottom of the boat.

This will be checked on boats sailing in the Worlds in Santa Cruz.

  • An update for the LightSurf® 2004 505 International World Championship.

We have 115 pre-registered, 98 confirmed, and 81 paid entries. We should have over 100 teams of 505 sailors enjoying the activities and conditions in Santa Cruz, starting in less than 2 weeks!

The 2 Australian containers have made it to the port and are awaiting customs clearance. The 2 UK and one German containers will arrive in a few days.

The small boat yard is being cleared of keelboats to make room for the 505's and the big tent, which goes up next week. Things are really shaping up nicely.

  • German EC in Travemunde

The last 4 days the German fleet was sailing the 2004 Eurocup hosted by the Travemunder Woche.

The Travemunder Woche is the second biggest sailing event worldwide with more than 1000 boats competing in total.

The event is a melting pot of sailors and tourists from all over the world. Nearly 1 Million people will have visited this unique mixture of sailing and party until the end of this week. There are caroussels, street art, live concerts from Folk to Jazz and Heavy Metal, finalized by great fire works and laser shows. I strongly recommend you guys in Europe to take your family and sail the Travemunder Woche next year, when we have our Nationals.

The 505 class received certain priviledges like an own course, gate start and a dinner event on the famous sailing vessel PASSAT. Included in the fee we had some free Caipirinhas (never had to write this, hope it's right) served by some outstanding Brazilian ladies, if you know what I mean.

We have sailed 9 beautiful races during 4 days. The event was dominated by team Stefan Koechlin / Axel Priegann, who proved an outstanding boatspeed under all conditions. Current world champion Holger Jess finished second with helm Joerg Haeger. The 3rd prize went to Michael Roessler / Holger Neuhaus, the last year's winners. Youth world champion Jens Findel missed a medal on place 4 with crew Wolfgang Bogacki.

42 Boats were competing in changing conditions, mainly light winds. Unfortunately we could not show our hospitality to sailors from other countries. We are sure, you will come next year.

It seems to be a trend that sailors are travelling less. We all have to keep in mind that it is a gift being able to meet people from all over the world. The German fleet nowadays is the biggest in the world and still growing. We need to encourage ourselves and others to go abroad for the benefit of our beautiful class and its future.
