  • Bruised But Not Beaten - The 505s Complete 2008 North American Championships
Final Day Report by Sue Athmann

Cascade Locks, Oregon, July 20, 2008 - With a profound sense of relief, the weary competitors of the 2008 International 505 North American Championships packed their gear after four tough races on the final day of the regatta. There was no let-them-down-softly, anti-climatic departing shot from The Gorge today.

Starting the day with almost placid trapezing conditions at 8-15 knots it was the variability of the shifts and puffs that tripped many sailors. It was easy to lose four or five places in a single oscillation. Or end up on your ear. The drained “5-oh” group confronted the conditions boldly and courageously.

The top 3 after the fourteen races (two throw-outs) are:
    1 Mike Martin/Jeffrey Nelson 28
    2 Nick Adamson/Stephen Bourdow 34
    3 Howard Hamlin/Peter Alarie 37

  • Rapport från Nordamerikanska mästerskapen

505 Pacific Coast Championship [Columbia Gorge Racing Association] June 9-11 2006 505 Gorge Regatta NW Regional Championships, June 25 2005 505 Gorge Regatta NW Regional Championships, June 25 2005

Day Three continued to provide tight racing and tough conditions as The Gorge’s breezes continued to pump. Racing was quite tight, with four general recalls throughout the day, a short line, and a sharp left shift near the pin. These conditions provided tough conditions and challenged the tempers of both competitors and Race Committee.
The morning was quite variable, with the breeze ranging from 8 to 12 knots and full of shifts. Nick Adamson and Stephen Bourdow took Race 6. Race 7 was won by Dalton Bergan and Fritz Lanzinger, and Race 8 was taken by Howard Hamlin and Peter Alarie.
For the afternoon racing, the breeze built a bit more, measuring a steady 15 knots with gusts to 25. The large shifts continued, and the breeze oscillated back and forth quite a bit. The strong breeze continued to favor the West Coast boats, with Mike Martin and Jeff Nelson taking Race 9 and 10’s bullets and Hamlin and Alarie taking both seconds.
As for carnage, The Gorge continued to prevail, though to a lesser extent. Damage included a broken gooseneck, a snapped main halyard, and of course, a few bruised egos. After 10 races, only 9 points separate the top three boats.
The Race Committee has scheduled four races for tomorrow, and the breeze is expected to continue. Competitors from the West Coast continue to dominate heading into the final day. The top five through 10 races:

1. Mike Martin / Jeff Nelson
2. Howard Hamlin / Peter Alarie
3. Nick Adamson / Stephen Bourdow
4. Mike Holt / Ben Benjamin
5. Dalton Bergan Fritz Lanzinger

APRIL

Hi all, I apologise for the late confirmation of results. This is due to irregularities in the voting procedure, specifically the use of electronic voting as this is not recognized by our constitution. These votes have ultimately been considered, but will not be recognized in future votes until the constitution is amended to permit their use. These changes which will be required are now being drafted, and we will put proposals forward at the Palermo AGM for the class’ consideration and approval to allow us as a class to use technology in the future.

Attached is the confirmation from ISAF regarding the last two rule changes. >> 5052008_CRC_080331.pdf

Peter Roos Int.505 Association Class Secretary

For all 505 sailors and other people interested in our class polish association of 505 class has prepared and publish propably one of the first 505' folder.
It is dated of 1955... At pictures are boats numbers like 4, 19, 25...
Good scans (I hope) of mentioned catalogue: cover, photos, first constitution and.. boats' numbers registry which starts with the hull number 1 - is really fascinating. We got these papers one year ago during Europeans here in Poland. We'd thought that as it is not only for our polish eyes we should publish it for free for all that want to know where and how everything started.
So... Visit polish site at www.int505.pl in subpage "galerie" than choose last one named "Folder klasy 505 z roku 1955. Tak powstała 505ka" or just click this link into your browser

Best regards for all five-oh sailors. Be our guests on int505.pl
